Imperial College London

Imperial College London is a university of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. It is ranked in the top 10 universities in the world – 3rd in Europe and 6th in the world by QS World University Rankings 2023 – and has a greater proportion of world-leading research than any other UK university, according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021).

Imperial College hosts the Department of Earth Science and Engineering, a world leader in research in efficient and sustainable mineral and energy resource extraction. Imperial College has a particularly strong reputation for translating fundamental research into solutions for industry.

The Advanced Mineral Processing Research Group at the Royal School of Mines studies fundamental aspects of mineral separations to enhance our understanding of these processes. The group has developed novel experimental techniques and state-of-the-art numerical models, which have been successfully applied for equipment design and enhanced metallurgical recovery. Their research, particularly on froth flotation, has had industrial implementation in mineral concentrators worldwide, and the research methodology encourages technology transfer between different industries.

The research from the group on sustainable mineral processing will include holistic environmental assessment using Multicriteria Decision Making tools.
