Each 5 March, on the occasion of World Energy Efficiency Day, it is a reminder that reducing energy consumption is one of the most effective ways to decrease emissions, optimise costs, and move towards more sustainable production models.

In this context, the European project Rotate (Circular Ecological Essential & Critical Raw Materials), funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement N. 101058651), has published seven technical guides that serve as a reference framework to strengthen the environmental leadership of the European extractive sector.

Among them, Volume 1 – Energy Efficiency stands out, presenting a specific methodology for carrying out energy audits in mining operations and quarries. The manual aligns with standards such as ISO 50002 and the UNE-EN 16247 series and includes criteria for integrating renewable energy sources and developing action plans to improve the energy performance of extractive operations.

Taken together, the seven manuals constitute a technical roadmap for advancing towards a more sustainable, resilient, and socially accepted extractive model, contributing to the ecological transition of the European raw materials sector.

The documents are publicly available on the official Rotate project website. Volume 1 – Energy Efficiency is currently available in English and Spanish.
