Aggregates Europe, in close collaboration with the ROTATE Project, funded by the European Commission, and with the support of Fundación Tormes-EB, the University of Liège, ANEFA, and FdA, has presented the first-level results of the Biodiversity Indicators 2024–2025. This marks an important milestone in the sector’s collective commitment to sustainability and biodiversity preservation.

Based on 191 responses collected from twelve European countries, this first phase establishes a common ground for developing practical, scalable, and scientifically robust tools to monitor biodiversity across extraction sites. The initiative is supported by the EU Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme and aims to create indicators that are both scientifically reliable and accessible to operators.

The results confirm that companies in the aggregates sector are increasingly adopting practices that foster environmental protection and ecosystem restoration. At the same time, they highlight opportunities to reinforce technical expertise, knowledge exchange, and coordination across organizations, ensuring consistent biodiversity management throughout Europe.

This initiative reflects the industry’s strong willingness to work together at the European level, building a common language of sustainability and strengthening the visibility of its environmental contribution”.

Therefore, expanding knowledge and strengthening internal coordination can help ensure protected habitats are consistently identified and managed across all sites.
